About

The Tumut Broom Factory is the last original Millet Broom Factory in Australia. The Factory is located in Tumut, a small town in the Snowy Mountains. Handmade millet brooms have been made at the factory the same way since 1946, and can be found Australia wide.

Owners Geoff and Rob invite you to drop in to the Factory and experience the magic of the broom making tradition.

Visitors to the factory will be able to view the broom manufacturing process firsthand and purchase their own millet broom at the end.

Pre-booked tours of the factory are available for coach groups, please contact the Broom Factory for further details. Tours include the history of the Millet Broom making tradition and the secrets behind the art of handmade millet brooms – from growing the millet through to sewing the broom.

Parking is available out the front of the Broom Factory, which is conveniently located opposite the Visitors Centre.

Take time out to visit the Tumut Broom Factory and learn about this historic Australian industry.

  1. We visited the broom factory many many years ago. Purchased quite a few brooms, but the favourite is a small long handled one that our granddaughter loves and rides it like a horse. We will never never forget our experience of watching them handmade. I guess they are still done this way now.

  2. I am seeking to purchase a replacement broom that was made by Tumut Millet some 12 years ago. The broom has a fancy woven ‘head’ and not only was a beautiful work of art but has served me daily for the past years. Now due to a broken handle (adult boys using it to play cricket with gggrrrrrrrr), I have no broom and I will not lower myself to buy an inferior model. Do you still produce the fancy woven head model and if so how do I go about purchasing some?? I await your response. Lisa T

  3. Hello – can you please advise an email address to contact the Broom Factory? I have been trying to call the number but it keeps going to fax? We would love to have the Broom Factory again at our Expo in February. Many thanks Carrie on behalf of the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo.

    • Hi Carrie,
Sorry it has taken us a while to get back to you, Geoff and Rob were on holidays in January and the Factory wasn’t open. Unfortunately we won’t be able to make it to the Farming Expo this year. Thanks for thinking of us.

  4. I’ve worn my beautiful Tumut broom down and need some new ones. Where can I buy them in Sydney? Northern beaches preferably.

    • Hi Mary,

You can buy our brooms from The Hardware Store in Alexandria & Balmain. They are both open 7 days a week and have 4 styles of brooms in stock.

      Thanks for contacting us

  5. Dear Broom Factory People.
I was just on your website, you may like to know that Elders in Bathurst do not stock any merchandise but the Greens at Mandurama stock your brooms. I have just asked them to keep 2 for me.
    kind regards,
    Judy B.

    • Hi Judy,

Thanks for letting us know. As I manage the website from Wollongong and Geoff and Rob are taking the orders in Tumut at the Factory its hard to know when stockists have run out of brooms/ stopped selling them. Great to hear that you were able to pick one up from the Greens at Mandurama.

      Thanks again for contacting us.

  6. Hi I would love to buy some brooms. Do you have a stockist in Queensland? An some prices please?
    Thanks Debra
